The Prince of Indie Film who is now a mainstream actor and Primetime Drama Prince Mr. Coco Martin was hailed as "Aktor ng Dekada" by Gawad Urian!
Coco is the recipient of this prestige award along with his former co-stars Ms. Cherry Pie Picache and Ms. Gina Pareño who were tied for the "Akres ng Dekada" award. We may recall that Coco, Cherry Pie, and Gina worked together in the hit TV series "Tayong Dalawa". The said recently concluded award serves as a reunion for a grandson, mother, and lola of the previously hit Primetime teleserye!
The "Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin" main actor expressed his gratitude for this big award he received! “Walang kapantay po ang sayang nararamdaman ko ngayon,” he expressed. “Higit pa po sa pasasalamat ang gusto ko iparating sa mga taong grabe po ang suporta sa akin,” Coco added.
Coco made a name for himself by slowly rising from the ranks. He has appeared in roughly 22 films–a mix of mainstream and indie movies, in his 8½ years active stay in showbusiness. Hit films like “Masahista,” “Tirador,” “Tambolista,” “Daybreak,” “Jay,” “Serbis,” “Kinatay,” “Noy,” and “Sa’yo Lamang” sharpened his acting skill! In fact, in less than a decade, he has collected more than a dozen of awards and recognitions from different award-giving bodies making him a multi-awarded actor not only here in the Philippines but worldwide! Nice!
He has also proven his worth via his television projects which became television hits as well. The most recent is “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin,” which is now the No.1 Primetime TV series both in Mega Manila (by AGB People's Ratings) and in nationwide (by Kantar Media) TV ratings! His other TV series before like “Tayong Dalawa,” “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,”, "Nagsimula Sa Puso" and “Agimat presents Tonyong Bayawak” were all big hits on TV!
In fact different characters of Coco Martin were showcased in his films and TV series. He portrayed a dual role in "Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin", a kontrabida in "Tayong Dalawa" and in "Kung Tayong Magkakalayo", an action star in "Tonyong Bayawak", a sexy hunk in Indie films like "Daybreak", "Serbis", and "Masahista", and even a singer in the musical series "Idol".
Coco even successfully portrayed a gay role in an special episode of the longest drama anthology "MMK" as well as a special child in another episode of that said TV program!
And later this year, Coco will once more be seen in a new movie with a new leading lady, Ms. Judy Ann Santos.
Great job Coco Martin! It's such an excellent accomplishment! Keep up the good work and more power to your career! Two thumbs up! c",)
