GMANetwork.com caught up with Alden Richards at the taping of "Mundo Mo'y Akin," a GMA primetime series which is set to end this week.
The top-rating program which also stars Louise delos Reyes, Lauren Young, Sunshine Dizon, Angelika dela Cruz, Gabby Eigenmann, Jaclyn Jose, among others, is Alden's second primetime project as lead star.
"For the record po, this is my longest soap so far sa GMA," declared the young actor. "Nag-umpisa kami noong March at ngayon pa lang matatapos. Ito rin yung masasabi kong pinakamagandang project ko so far."
Asked about how he feels now that the series is coming to an end, he said the feeling is bitter-sweet.
"Of course, on one hand, there is a feeling of sadness, pero dumarating talaga sa point ang ganito sa lahat ng mga soap opera. We [the cast] will see each other pa rin naman outside [of the show]. On the other hand, masaya ako kasi maganda ang naging performance ng show during its run in primetime," he said.
Alden and Louise were officially launched as a primetime love team in "One True Love" in 2012. Their characters as Tisoy and Elise, respectively, were followed by many viewers, most of whom are still having a hangover up to this day.
To Alden "Mundo Mo'y Akin" and "One True Love" are incomparable since each one is successful in different respects. "When it comes to longevity, ‘yung 'Mundo Mo'y Akin' pero iba rin kasi ang 'One True Love' kasi dun talaga mas nakilala ang love team namin ni Louise [delos Reyes], he said. "Hanggang ngayon, maraming fans ng 'One True Love' ang solid pa rin sa love team namin; tinatawag pa rin nila kami ni Louise as 'Tisoy' at 'Elise.' Iba-ibang klase ng 'success' e," he said.
The actor admitted that during the first few taping days, he had problems differentiating his previous character from the present.
"When we started in March, nahirapan pa akong 'tumalon' from my character as 'Tisoy'. May times during the first few taping days na naipapasok ko pa yung pagiging 'Tisoy' ko sa character ni 'Jerome'. I had a hard time kasi there isn't much difference between these two characters except na si Tisoy was not given proper education, unlike Jerome who graduated from college," Alden shared.
"The important thing that I learned from the experience is that as an actor, one should not get too much attached to the character being portrayed. When you hear the director shout 'Cut!' you should be able to detach yourself from your character immediately," he added.
On the side, Alden Richards is also now a recording artist. He recently released an album under Universal Records, the sales of which exceeded the actor's own expectations. Does this mean he's going to seriously pursue this new career path?
"No po e. Kasi that was just one opportunity given to me by Universal Records. But if Universal would consider giving me another one, siguro I would still do it. But I'm really an actor by heart. Yung singing kasi, I just took a chance. Tiningnan ko kung ano ba ang magiging outcome if I venture into music. So far, OK naman. Sa experience ko sa mga album tours and mall shows the audience really made me feel special," shared Alden.
Meanwhile, as "Mundo Mo'y Akin" draws to a close, Alden Richards recalls his favorite scenes in the series.
"Yung mga breakup moments between me and Marilyn (Louise delos Reyes) and me and Darlene (Lauren Young) yung pinaka-paborito ko," said Alden. "Kasi sa totoong buhay kahit nakipaghiwalay na ako before, hindi naman ganun ka-heavy [yung break-up]. Dito kasi sa 'Mundo Mo'y Akin' pinaramdam sa akin ng mga eksena kung ano ang totoong feeling 'pag nandun ka sa situation na 'yun," said Alden.
Viewers are speculating on how the story of “Mundo Mo’y Akin” will end. Many are hopeful that it will be a happy ending for Jerome and Marilyn. Will it be so?
